Institutions: Christine Lagarde tipped to lead the IMF

Following the dismissal of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Finance and Economy Minister Christine Lagarde is the clear favorite to become Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It should be noted here that Ms. Lagarde has received significant support from German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker, who see her as "the ideal candidate" for the position.

A negotiation expert

After her experience at Baker & McKenzie and the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Lagarde earned her stripes in international negotiations and politics. Even before the DSK scandal, she was an authority among G20 members..

A good image

The game is not over yet

According to some observers, Europeans may want someone other than French to head the IMF. It must be said that four of the institution's eleven heads have come from France. Serious candidates from other countries are in the running, including Axel Weber and Peer Steinbrück of Germany. Moreover, with the Tapie** affair still unresolved, this could become a real problem for Ms. Lagarde's future career.
