    The one-step method

    Price with discount = (starting price) x (100 - discount in %)

Discount Multiplier Example price 100 CHF Final price
    -10% × 0.90 100 × 0.90 90 CHF
    -20% × 0.80 100 × 0.80 80 CHF
    -25% × 0.75 100 × 0.75 75 CHF
    -30% × 0.70 100 × 0.70 70 CHF
    -40% × 0.60 100 × 0.60 60 CHF
    -50% × 0.50 100 × 0.50 50 CHF
    -70% × 0.30 100 × 0.30 30 CHF

    👉 Practical tip:

    • With -10%, you multiply directly by 0.9
    • With -20%, you multiply by 0.8
    • With -25%, you multiply by 0.75
    • With -50%, you multiply by 0.5

How do you calculate a discount as a percentage?

    👉 Simple formula:

    Example 1: a t-shirt at 50 CHF with -10%

    1. Initial price = 50 CHF
    2. Discount = 10% = 10 ÷ 100 = 0.10
    3. Calculation :
      50 \times (1 – 0,10) = 50 \times 0,90 = 45 CHF
✅ The t-shirt costs 45 CHF after discount.

Example 2: Shoes at CHF 120 with -25%

    1. Initial price = 120 CHF
    2. Discount = 25% = 0.25
    3. Calculation :
      120 \times (1 – 0,25) = 120 \times 0,75 = 90 CHF
✅ The shoes cost 90 CHF after discount.

    Example 3: a bag costing 200 CHF with -40%

    1. Initial price = 200 CHF
    2. Discount = 40% = 0.40
    3. Calculation :
      200 \times (1 – 0,40) = 200 \times 0,60 = 120 CHF
✅ The bag costs 120 CHF after discount.

💡 Quick tip without a formula:

    • 10% = remove one-tenth of the price
    • 20% = remove one fifth
    • 50% = divide by two
    • 25% = divide by four
