Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon climbs in the polls

According to the latest CSA survey, the Left Front candidate has seen a significant rise in the polls. Indeed, 10-11% of French people are reportedly ready to vote for him, and his ideas are even inspiring other candidates.

For now, the Trotskyist competition remains unchanged, and the Green candidate is taking a step back. Mr. Mélenchon says he is convinced that his ideas are inspiring the two main candidates, François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy. For example, Sarkozy's tax on tax evaders and his intention to break free from certain rules that prevail in Europe, as well as Hollande's 75% tax bracket.

To capitalize on his electoral gains, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is striking while the iron is hot. According to his entourage, he is aiming for 151% of the vote. Yesterday, he stated his desire to lead the left while admitting that he considers "the task a bit daunting." Meanwhile, within the Socialist Party, they maintain that Mélenchon's popularity is not a cause for concern.

Si plusieurs observateurs demeurent convaincus que Jean-Luc Mélenchon fait de l’ombre à François Hollande, d’autres prétendent que celui-ci ne fait que toucher les deux courbes des candidats favoris dans le tableau des sondages.

Under the circumstances, the Left Front candidate would be wise to remain vigilant. Indeed, the two Trotskyist candidates, Philippe Poutou and Nathalie Artaud, have secured their endorsements and expect to benefit (as early as next week) from "equal airtime in the audiovisual media.".
