Davis Cup: Switzerland – USA 0:3

Davis Cup 2012 – First Round

Switzerland – USA 0:3

What a humiliation! The Swiss team is out ignominiously. The Davis Cup is already over. Stan and Roger missed their chance; perhaps we expected too much from them, but the disappointment is immense for everyone.

R. Federer's reaction

«"It's disappointing to lose 3-0, but we're not downcast either. I feel especially bad for our fans. But we shouldn't talk about a crisis after this defeat. I have to give credit to our opponent, who deserved their victory. We gave it our all in this doubles match. Overall, we played a good match! But we missed too many opportunities."«

Friday

A very difficult start for the Swiss team. The Swiss were favorites going into these first two matches, but the Americans rose to the occasion and caused a sensation. Wawrinka narrowly missed victory against Fish after a grueling four-and-a-half-hour battle. Federer seemed out of sorts against the American, who, standing at 2.06 meters tall, had more than just his serve to overcome the world No. 3. The American's powerful forehand and his mental fortitude on numerous break points were enough to break Federer, who nevertheless seemed a little less combative than in the Grand Slams.
