[CES] An Ubuntu interface for TV
It's already been a busy morning at this (pre-) CES 2012. After Acer with its Aspire S5 and Lenovo with its tablet, it's no longer hardware we're talking about, but software.
On the eve of CES, everyone was expecting to see an Ubuntu interface designed specifically for tablets. Well, surprise, surprise, Canonical hasn't unveiled a tablet interface, but one for a TV!
It's a pretty big surprise for everyone. Geeks may be disappointed, but rest assured, this isn't the end of CES, and there's a good chance that a special Ubuntu tablet will be arriving in the next few days!
But today we're going to talk about televisions. With its (obviously open-source) OS, Ubuntu is hitting hard in the field and could well do some damage to Google TV or LG's smart TVs. With this OS, you will of course be able to watch your favourite TV channels, but also browse Youtube or rent films and series.
We don't really know much more about the product yet, but it shouldn't be long before we do. In any case, there's little doubt that the first Ubuntu-powered TVs will be arriving later this year!.
After barely three articles, we can already more or less announce the color of this CES which should essentially talk about tablets, ultrabooks and smart TVs! We will see if it is confirmed 🙂
