Star People: Soul singer Amy Winehouse, 27, found dead at home

After a long descent into hell due to an untreated alcohol problem, the woman who had given meaning to Soul Music, singing about despair and addiction, was found dead this morning in her London home.
She was only 20 years old when her first album, "Franck," came out. The British quickly fell under the spell of this deep, disturbing voice with the accent cockney In the following years, she became the enfant terrible who didn't hesitate to call Madonna an "old hasbeen" and interrupt U2's show by shouting "Shut up, we don't care!" On TV shows where she appeared and also during her stage shows, she was often too drunk to speak clearly or sing. Recently, she had also turned to drugs.
Five-time Grammy winner
In 2006, her managers suggested she enter rehab to treat her drinking problems. But the singer dismissed them and turned their pleas into a bravado-like song: "Rehab." The song would become a global hit, as would her second album, "Back to Black," produced by Mark Ronson. The trashy diva would garner five prestigious American Grammy Awards for it.
An inimitable look
Tattooed like a trucker, with smoky eyes and a huge hair tiara, she even inspired Karl Lagerfeld for a Chanel fashion show.
