The little unspeakable pleasures
We all have little habits, even if we prefer to keep them secret, that could offend good manners. Are you one of those people who likes to slurp their coffee or soup from time to time? Or stick your gum under a chair or table? Or pick your nose while driving at traffic lights? Don't worry, you're not alone...
According to psychologists, these are childish behaviors without consequences that provide an immediate relaxing effect. For some, these unacknowledged pleasures even constitute an outlet, a safety valve for big children who are perhaps too conditioned by the rules of our society. These impulses are difficult to control, and if we realize how much it is condemned by morality, the pleasure is increased tenfold...
It's a little less healthy if you enjoy watching a good domestic scene or if you're amused by seeing someone fall flat on their face in the street. Have you noticed how, in this case, many are attracted to watch this "spectacle", unfortunately, without intervening?
To learn more about the subject, I suggest you read the recent book by Frédéric Ploton, published by Éditions Chiflet & Cie, under the title "100 plaisirs inavouables." The author admits to having drawn inspiration primarily from his own experience. He reminds us that no matter how civilized we may be, we are far from being ready to put aside our hidden habits in the name of decency.
And even the Queen of England is not exempt…
