Poll: Marine Le Pen in the lead for the 2012 presidential elections

France – 2012 presidential election

Harris Interactive has published a poll that suggests Marine Le Pen (National Front, far-right) will lead the first round. According to the poll, the daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen and party president would beat Socialist Martine Aubry and President Nicolas Sarkozy.

2012 Presidential Election: Who will be the new President of the French Republic?

The figures, published by the newspaper Le Parisien, put Mr Le Pen in the lead with 23% ahead of Sarkozy with 21%, tied with Ms Aubry of the Socialist Party.

Things are heating up in our neighboring country; a National Front candidate making it to the second round is scaring everyone. Jean-Marie Le Pen caused a sensation in 2002 by qualifying for the second round against Jean-Marie Chirac.

Here is the statement from the main person concerned, Marine Le Pen:

«"I think we are witnessing here, or at least I hope so, the beginnings of a revival of the French people."»
«"The awakening of the people is very fashionable right now. There's no reason why the French people shouldn't awaken."»
