The Galliano affair recalls the video scandal of Christian Dior's niece

John Galliano, creative director at Dior for fifteen years, jeopardized his career when he allegedly made racist and anti-Semitic remarks during an altercation with a couple in a Parisian bar.

Natalie Portman's reaction

The actress, who just won the Oscar for Best Actress this year, was quick to react strongly to the scandal. "Jewish and proud of it," she said, "I categorically refuse to be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way!" Ms. Portman, the face of Dior's Miss Chérie perfume, had just completed her first contract with this illustrious client.

The past resurfacing

This incident is reminiscent of the time on November 2, 1963, when the niece of fashion designer Christian Dior appeared on television to proudly announce her upcoming marriage to a neo-Nazi. Wearing a swastika around her neck, she extolled, with gusto, the Hitlerian ideology that she and her fiancé had fully embraced. Defending and perpetuating the Aryan race, she declared, were the goals of her life.
