The most unusual tower in the world??
In Sweden, specifically in the city of Malmö, a 190-meter-tall residential complex has just been erected, aptly named "The Rotating Torso." The country's tallest building comprises 147 apartments and has 47 floors. The Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava designed it. Was he inspired by his compatriot Gaudí, who, long before him, had enjoyed twisting structures?
In the heart of Västra Hamnen, this astonishing tower is worth a visit, if only because it is one of the tallest buildings in Europe. While the original concept was a classic parallelepiped tower, the architect imagined it twisted, much like a human torso when it rotates. The topmost block is therefore rotated 90 degrees relative to the base. Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the housing complex unless invited by a resident or invited into one of the offices located there.
Until recently, Malmö was little known to the world. Everything changed when the city invited architects and builders to demonstrate their talent and imagination, particularly in the areas of eco-responsibility, energy efficiency, and sustainability. As a result, we now find buildings on the water, rotating solar panels, vertical gardens, which surprise us with their originality...like this tower.
