Getting married at an altitude of 1,837 meters!

More and more couples prefer not to get married in a church, and they're often looking for an unusual venue. Why not say the famous "I do" at an altitude of 1,837 meters in the heart of the Swiss Alps?

In the Gstaad region, more precisely in Saanen, in the heart of the Swiss Alps, more than 70 couples celebrate their wedding each year. The ceremony itself takes place in the Rellerli mountain restaurant (a branch of a Swiss registry office) and can accommodate up to 300 guests. To get there, a special gondola, decorated and decorated for the occasion, will welcome the bride and groom.

This unusual concept attracts tourists from all over the world. The wedding ceremony can be held in French, English, German, or Italian.

Other unusual places to get married

Even more unusual? The zoo! Zurich's zoo has become a highly sought-after official wedding venue, particularly the section recreating the Masoala rainforest of Madagascar, housed in a giant greenhouse. There, in 30-degree heat and 90% humidity, surrounded by lush vegetation and with birdsong as a backdrop, the bride and groom exchange vows. It will cost them around 800 Swiss francs for about twenty guests, including an aperitif and a guided tour.

If you can't stand the tropical humidity, you can opt for the Baroque hall of the Weavers' Guild, Zur Waag, or the vaulted ceiling of a historic wine cellar (also in Zurich). It's worth noting that the concept originated in the canton of Vaud, which offers nine unusual venues for civil ceremonies: the castles in Aigle, Coppet, Lucens, Oron, and Vullierens; the Maison Blanche in Yvorne; and the Châtelard in Montreux, as well as the Priory of Romainmôtier or the steamship "Montreux.".
