Australian Open 2011: 1/4 Federer vs. Wawrinka
Australian Open 2011 – ATP Grand Slam tournament (tennis)
Quarter-final 100% Switzerland in Melbourne, a historic moment in Swiss tennis.

Final result
R.Federer SUI/2 b. S.Wawrinka SUI/19 6-1 6-3 6-3
No miracle for Wawrinka… RF remains the Swiss number one! Roger will participate in his eighth consecutive semi-final in this prestigious tournament. The head-to-head record between the two Swiss players therefore still heavily favors Federer with 7 wins in 8 matches. It was in 2009 that Stan managed the feat of defeating Roger (2009: Monte-Carlo (clay) – Round of 16: Wawrinka beat Federer 6-4 7-5).
Statements:
Roger Federer: It was a really good match for me. I served and returned really well. I thought he'd serve harder today. I've played so many quarterfinals that I had the experience and the game to trouble him. Because I won the first set quickly, it put him under pressure. He played a good second set, he had his first break point but he didn't take it. It wasn't an easy match for him.
Stanislas Wawrinka: Of course I'm disappointed to have lost, but I think he was just playing too well for me. From the outside, you couldn't see how good he was. He always knew how to respond to me.

Rod Laver Arena will host a Stan Rogers duel; their last encounter took place at the French Open last year, with Federer winning in three sets. This is the first time two Swiss players have faced each other in a quarterfinal of a tournament of this caliber. The previous record was set in the fourth round of the 2010 French Open.
