Unusual accommodation: a night in a silo!

In Herznach, between Basel and Zurich, you can spend the night in a rather unusual bed and breakfast. Like an eagle's nest, it sits 18 meters above the ground in a former concrete iron ore silo that has been given a unique look. Four comfortable rooms were built there in 2002, and large windows in the dining room (in the upper part of the silo) offer breathtaking views of this beautiful region.
Tourists can also enjoy a forest and vineyard park where deer roam freely and admire the small mining train nearby, which is still in working order. A small natural pond allows you to swim in the summer, surrounded by terraces for an exceptional rest.
The transformation work was undoubtedly very expensive, but the originality of the place makes it a little architectural gem with incomparable charm.

The only Hotel-Silo in Switzerland
When the most beautiful grain silo in Waldkirch (canton of St. Gallen) was closed, Sepp Oberholzer was inspired to turn it into a hotel overlooking Lake Constance. He therefore bought it, renovated it, restored it, and transformed it into a five-story hotel (including 14 comfortable and clean rooms) that he named the Tower Hotel. The facility was already connected to the sanitary and electrical networks; all that remained was to cover the former storage center with solar panels, which provide hot water to the entire building.
Located about a 20-minute drive from St. Gallen, the silo hotel welcomes about 120 guests per month. During the OLMA festival in October, the three-star establishment is fully booked.
