Fed up... who hasn't signed the petition?

Summer fruits and vegetables in winter? What a strange idea. And yet, this is what supermarkets offer us, earlier and earlier every year. Strawberries, raspberries, asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes, grapes, melons: fruits and vegetables from the sun that end up shivering in our shopping carts in the heart of winter.

For example….

Strawberries are already on the shelves as early as February. However, in our latitudes, strawberries ripen in June!
Yes, but these come from Spain, like a large part of the fruits and vegetables sold in our supermarkets in winter. Grown in greenhouses and on sand by underpaid, exploited and poorly housed workers, doused with pesticides and fungicides, they then cross the whole of Europe, losing a good part of their vitamins and minerals along the way, to finally reach us... And disappoint our taste buds: plastic texture and watery taste, nothing to do with the delicious aroma of strawberries that grew in the earth and turned red in the sun.
Produced in ecologically and ethically unsavory conditions, bland and polluting, is it really worth it? Can't we really wait until June to enjoy these little summer fruits?

Just a little later, the asparagus arrives. This time from Mexico and Peru. In these times of environmental awareness, when everyone is trying to reduce CO2 emissions, is it reasonable to ship vegetables that grow here from so far away? And for our regional producers to find themselves with their produce on their hands when the asparagus season arrives in May...
