Simonetta Sommaruga (BE) succeeds Leuenberger (4th woman in the government, for the first time with a female majority)

Voting Details:

First round: Simonetta Sommaruga (PS/BE): 86 votes; Jean-François Rime (UDC/FR): 80 votes; Jacqueline Fehr (PS/ZH): 61 votes; Hildegard Faessler (PS/SG): 10 votes; others: 7 votes.

Second round: Simonetta Sommaruga: 96 votes; Jean-François Rime: 78 votes; Jacqueline Fehr: 64 votes; miscellaneous: 7 votes.

Third round: Simonetta Sommaruga: 98 votes; Jean-François Rime: 77 votes; Jacqueline Fehr: 70 votes.

Fourth round: Simonetta Sommaruga was elected with 159 votes; Jean-François Rime obtained 81 votes.
