French fries trafficker arrested at the French-Swiss border

Swiss customs officers intercepted a shipment offriesmore than a ton of contraband fries were seized last Thursday in Val de Ruz, in the canton of Neuchâtel.
The driver, who is a Swiss trader, had to pay a large fine (the amount was not revealed) and settle customs fees, according to AFP.
The transporter did not declare his fries when going through customs, Swiss border guards said in a statement.
The driver had already attracted the attention of French customs officials last week. The reasons for his trips and his frequent back-and-forth travel between Switzerland and France had seemed unclear, and he had been placed under surveillance.
Switzerland only joined the Schengen Area in 2008. "The Schengen agreements allow the free movement of goods and people from Sweden to Greece and from Portugal to the Polish border and will celebrate their 25th anniversary on June 14th." .
"This unusual incident rekindles the controversy sparked by the near disappearance of borders between the 25 countries that signed this agreement."
