Wikipedia encourages Internet users to publish encyclopedic videos

A new idea launched by the Wikimedia Foundation et de faire participer les internautes d’une manière innovante au développement de l’encyclopédie libre et gratuite.

Since its creation in 2001, Wikipedia has allowed anyone who wishes to do so to contribute an article to the site using wiki technology. However, with over 920,000 articles for the French version, il est parfois difficile de lancer un nouveau sujet qui n’a pas déjà été abordé par la communauté.

The foundation's campaign, named « Let’s Get Video on Wikipedia » a donc pour objectif d’inciter les wikipédiens à contribuer d’une nouvelle manière à l’enrichissement de l’encyclopédie en fournissant des vidéos libres. «"Wikipedia needs your help to build a high-quality archive of encyclopedic content."» souligne l’encyclopédie.

Videos must not exceed 100 MB, must be encoded in the open Ogg Theora format, and must be playable using a Kaltura HTML5 platform player. We can't wait to see the first videos!
