Winter fatigue
Many people feel a little depressed as winter approaches. The shorter days and lack of light lead to a lack of energy, even downright fatigue.
It is well known that winter often brings a drop in form and a more or less intense weariness which has an impact on morale.
How to combat these disruptive agents?
First, you have to make sure that it does not
It's not a real depression by doing a little analysis of what happened around you recently:
– have you experienced a difficult time (with family, friends, at home, at work)?
– do you have sleep problems?
– Do you feel more tired in the morning than in the evening?
– do you lose the desire to do things, even those you usually like to do?
– do you have dark thoughts or moments of unexplained sadness?
If this is your situation, you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. The earlier depression is detected, the better it can be treated.
Do the symptoms recur every winter?
In this case it is indeed winter fatigue, it is due to the lack of light. Light is essential for our body to secrete melatonin, a hormone which acts on the night/sleep cycle and which is also one of the most powerful natural antioxidants known to date. It is thanks to it that our body can cope with the multiple attacks it undergoes. The lack of melatonin manifests itself by the appearance of fatigue or the sensation of feeling depressed.
There is a very effective but still little used remedy: light therapy. All you need to do is spend 20 to 30 minutes each morning under a special lamp that mimics daylight. But there are also other tips for fighting the winter blues:
– the polyvitamins that will help you get through the difficult winter
– sport (walks, jogging, swimming, etc.)
– diet: if you are not very hungry, do not force yourself to eat or eat lightly. You will eat better at the next meal.
It's up to you to find what works best for you. Obviously, if you suffer from diabetes or weight problems, it's best to consult your doctor to establish the protocol to follow.
