Vancouver Olympics: The last torchbearer
There Olympic flame, will light up the sporting capital during the competitions, from the end of the opening ceremony onwards. of the 21st Olympic Winter Games. It will take place at 6 p.m. local time (3 a.m. in Switzerland). The flame has travelled 45,000 km over 3 months across Canada. It is estimated that it will have passed within an hour's drive of 90% of the Canadian population.
The question many people are asking is... who will be the last of the 12,000 torchbearers.
It won't be Arnold Schwarzenegger who will be among the final runners. He will pass the torch to the two-time British Olympic champion, runner Sebastian Coe. The California governor's choice is causing a stir because of his bodybuilder's past use of steroids.
The Canadian press's favorite is Wayne Gretzky, a former Canadian hockey champion. Other names in circulation include Betty Fox, mother of Terry Fox, a one-legged runner who crossed Canada and raised money for cancer research.
Officials state that only 4 people know the identity of the bearer, including the wearer himself. "This person was chosen several months ago, but if there had been the slightest leak, we would have replaced it »" they announced.
