Bernanke reappointed as Fed chairman

US-BANK-BERNANKE-ECONOMYThe Senate approved Thursday the reappointment of Ben Bernanke to head the Bank of the United StatesHe was confirmed as head of the Fed by a vote of 70 to 30, for a four-year term, despite doubts from some about his policies.

The term of the US Reserve Chairman ended on January 31. After an initial four-year term decided by George Bush, he was appointed this time by Barack Obama in August.

Strong opposition to his reappointment arose in the Senate with only 70 votes for, a low score compared to his predecessors. Part of the political class accuses Bernanke of being too tied to Wall Street and not having been able to avoid the financial crisisWith the threat of non-renewal behind him, the Fed chairman will probably have to partially change his policy, by favoring full employment.
