Short-time working compensation soon to rise from 18 to 24 months
THE State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) has begun hearings with professionals to study the extension of the maximum duration of compensation for short-time working. She would go from 18 to 24 months.
The final decision will be taken in March for application from April. The aim is to prevent companies from laying off staff during the crisis. The unemployment rate in Switzerland is forecast to rise further over the next two years.
This measure should not no additional cost for unemployment insurance. In fact, the cost of a worker benefiting from short-time working is lower than that of a conventional unemployed person.
