The Killer Inside Me: A shocking film

The Sundance Film Festival, the must-attend event for independent cinema, opens on 21 January and runs until 31 January.

The film " The Killer Inside Me »by British director Michael Winterbottom was screened there last Sunday. Adapted from Jim Thompson's 1952 novel, the film stars Casey Affleck as Lou Ford, a sadistic small-town deputy sheriff who turns out to be a psychotic murderer; Kate Hudson plays the murderer's girlfriend, while Jessica Alba plays a prostitute whom Lou often visits. Both women are violently brutalized by this sociopath.

The images in this film would have been so unbearable that Jessica Alba and several others left the room in the middle of the screening. At the end of the screening, none of the actors were present, with only Michael Winterbottom remaining to answer questions from the audience about the film. gratuitous violence inflicted on women in this shocking film.

This reaction reminds me of the reaction to the film «Irréversible» by French director Gaspar Noé, released in 2002, where an unbearable 9-minute rape scene was shown. Apart from the violence present throughout the film, this sequence caused a number of people, including myself, to leave the cinema.
