World Cup 2026: FIFA launches a new ticket category dedicated to supporters of qualified teams
Faced with criticism of exorbitant prices...
In response to the historic interest in the 2026™ FIFA World Cup, FIFA has announced the creation of a new ticket category specifically for supporters of the qualified national teams. Known as the «Basic Fan Grandstand», these tickets will be offered at a single price of 60 US dollars for each of the 104 matches of the tournament, including the final.
The aim of this initiative is to enable fans to follow their national team throughout the competition in more accessible conditions, while almost 20 million ticket requests have already been registered as part of the current sales phase.
Distribution managed by the federations
These tickets will be reserved exclusively for supporters of the qualified teams and distributed by the participating member associations. Each national federation will define its own eligibility criteria and application procedures, with the obligation to favour the most loyal supporters of the selection.
In total, 50 % of the ticket quota allocated to each federation will be for the most affordable categories:
Economy stand: 40 % Basic stand for supporters: 10 %
The rest of the inventory will be divided between the Standard and Première categories.
Easy refunds in the event of disposal
Another measure in favour of supporters: those who have made a request via their federation and whose team does not qualify for the knockout phase will be exempted from handling fees when unsuccessful requests are reimbursed.
Unprecedented interest in the 2026 World Cup
The announcement comes as interest in the 2026 World Cup continues to grow, buoyed by the confirmation of the calendar, host cities and match schedules. The tournament will take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026 in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
The random selection procedure for the purchase of tickets remains open until Tuesday 13 January 2026 at 11am (ET), 5pm (CET). FIFA would like to point out that the time of application has no influence on the chances of being drawn.
Football at the heart of FIFA's investments
As a not-for-profit organisation, FIFA specifies that more than 90 % of its revenues over the 2023-2026 cycle will be reinvested in the development of men's, women's and youth football within its 211 member associations.
