Apple's iSlate tablet will be unveiled in January

Less than a week after Apple announced it would make "a major product announcement" on January 26, sparking speculation about an iSlate tablet (a name given by tech bloggers after Apple reserved the domain name iSlate.com), the tablet's specifications are already available online thanks to a leak.

Apple iSlate n’est pas un terme officiel utilisé par Apple, mais il pourrait désigner l’un des concepts ou produits d’Apple qui ressemblent à ce terme. Voici deux interprétations possibles :

1. iPad (often confused with "iSlate")

The term «"iSlate"» has been speculated avant la sortie de l’iPad in 2010. Some media outlets and rumors had mentioned the name «"iSlate"» as being that of a new product d’Apple. Finalement, le produit est sorti sous le nom d’iPad, A touch tablet révolutionnaire qui combine des fonctionnalités d’ordinateur, de lecteur multimédia et d’appareil de lecture électronique.

2. iSlate in the context of educational technologies

«"iSlate"» could also refer to Apple tablets used in educational settings, car certaines écoles utilisent des iPads (ou d’autres tablettes) et les appellent des « slates », un terme qui vient de l’slate. Apple has also launched initiatives to introduce tablets into classrooms via educational applications and educational tools.

Why? Because this beast of a machine will be boosted with an Intel 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and run on the latest Mac OS X 10.7 Clouded Leopard (this new OS is expected to be a touch version of Mac OS X and uses a widget-based interface), which promises an ultra-fast boot time.

The ISlate has been described as having a 7.1-inch touchscreen with a sort of "smart feedback" and an anti-fingerprint coating, 2GB of DDR3 SDRAM, a 120GB hard drive, a built-in microphone and stereo speakers, Wi-Fi, an Ethernet port, Bluetooth, and USB ports.

In addition, iSlate will include an integrated webcam with a projector. All this in an aluminum casing and a price around 1000$

With iSlate, you'll apparently be able to do more than just watch videos, browse the internet, and listen to music. According to some speculation, Apple is negotiating content deals with several media groups, and iSlate is designed to receive television and newspaper subscriptions wirelessly.

Malgré tout, Il y a quelques spécificités manquantes dans cette fuite. Par exemple, il n’y a pas mention d’une connexion 3G et si iSlate est lancée sans cela, cela lui retirerait bien des fonctionnalités utiles de nos jours.

Furthermore, iSlate doesn't appear to include an optical drive (CD/DVD). However, Apple will offer this option with an external drive.
