HEROIC! Swiss women reach the grail and make history
Switzerland - Czech Republic 2-0
Ostrava (CZE), Grand Final
They did it! At the end of a breathtaking final, the Swiss women's team rose to the roof of the world by beating the Czech Republic 2-0 in Ostrava. Twenty years on from their first world title in Singapore, the Swiss women clinched a second historic world title at the end of an exceptional tournament.
Buoyed by their incredible 6-3 win over Sweden the day before, the Helvetians delivered a final of unbridled intensity. Cornered, under pressure but never breaking down, they showed extraordinary courage and solidarity to weather the Czech storm.

A defence of iron, a mind of steel
It only took a flash of brilliance to turn the match on its head. In the 13th minute, Céline Stettler found the net to give Switzerland a precious lead. From then on, the scenario was clear: resist, again and again. And the Swiss did so with total self-sacrifice.
The Czechs tried everything, spurred on by a boiling hot crowd, but came up against a wall named Lara Heini, imperial in her goal. The Helvetians multiplied their blocks, sacrifices and defensive efforts, perfectly embodying the spirit of champions.
The relief and the explosion of joy came with 38 seconds to go, when captain Isabelle Gerig sealed the triumph in the empty net.
Switzerland is world champion. And again.
Heroic, united and indomitable, the Swiss have become a legend in their own right. 🇨🇭✨
