US OPEN: Federer-Del Potro Final

Federer missed his chance to make history, despite everything going perfectly. The Swiss player started with a solid first set, winning it 6-3, and led 3-1 in the second before being pegged back and losing the set in a poorly executed tiebreak. The Argentine's serve became increasingly problematic for Federer, who gradually faded as the match progressed, while the 20-year-old Argentine gained momentum.
Federer missed opportunities to close out the match in the fourth set when he was two points away from victory, 5-4, 15-30, but Del Potro broke his serve. There are regrets to be had, but Federer will surely find solace in the fantastic year he has given to tennis and the history he has made with his victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Federer is extremely upset with himself for letting the second set slip away, which will have the well-known consequences on the outcome of this final. But, at the risk of repeating myself, we must look at the positives of the year as a whole.

Roger's statement:
«"This year, I won two Grand Slam tournaments. I only lost the other two in the fifth set of the final. Furthermore, I got married. I had two children. What more could I ask for?"»
Match result
Del Potro (ATP 6, Arg) beats Federer : 3-6 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-2
Federer's season is not over; he still has goals and ATP points to retain:
«"Life goes on", he continued. I still have goals for the end of this season: to keep my number 1 ranking, win Basel and the London Masters. I can't be disappointed with my performance at the US Open. I played a great tournament. Tonight, I had my chance. I simply didn't take it.
Good luck Roger
