Loïc Meillard in the interview at the start of the season
The Alpine Ski season begins this weekend with the events in Sölden
Summary of the interview — Loïc Meillard before Sölden
«It’s time to get back to competition.»
We train all summer, we suffer a little in the gym, in the shade, and finally being able to compare ourselves to others, to rediscover the adrenaline of the start, is something I'm really looking forward to. The preparation went well.
The summer was a bit short, as is often the case, but we worked hard and were able to do what we wanted to do. With the back issue last year, we had to adapt certain things: certain exercises, certain training sessions. That made the preparation interesting because there were unknowns and we had to get our feelings back.
Physically, I feel good. We did the job, there were no problems or shortcomings.
There are still three weeks to work on the final details and regain a little more explosiveness, but overall, everything is open for the future.
«The Super-G maintains the same position as in recent years.»
The goal is to keep the focus on the giant slalom and the slalom, while adding a few Super-G races. I know that I don't have time to train enough to perform well everywhere, so we choose the slopes that suit me best, and we adapt the program according to my feelings at the time.
In summer, I already have few days for technical training, so for speed it's even fewer. But the days we had were excellent, and that's what matters.
«"I want to come to the start knowing I can play up front."»
The expectations are the same every year: be competitive in every race, give your best, have no regrets. If I can do that, I know I can ski fast. I try to avoid focusing too much on results: if they're meant to come, they will.
For the 2026 Olympic Games, it's the same. It's still a long way off, there are a lot of races before, but obviously, the goal of a big event is to come away with a medal. And for that, you have to ski well. So I'm focusing on the essentials.
Camille Rast is also very motivated to return to competition
