Video of Storm Benjamin arriving in Switzerland
A powerful gale is sweeping across Switzerland this Thursday, October 23, 2025, as part of Storm Benjamin. Initial observations have already reported gusts of around 124 km/h around 7:00 a.m. in the Chasseral region of the Bernese Jura. This storm is part of an explosive cyclogenesis: the low pressure system intensified very quickly, causing a very tight pressure gradient and a "low-level jet" likely to push the winds towards the plain.
According to MeteoSwiss, the peak intensity is expected between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with gusts of 80 to 110 km/h in the plains and 110 to 130 km/h in the mountains in the northern Alps.
At 8:00 a.m., a first power outage was reported in Val-de-Ruz in the Canton of Neuchâtel.
Vigilance is therefore required: falling branches and trees (avoid forests), falling objects on public roads, and disruptions to transport are possible.
The wind is already roaring in the canton of Neuchâtel
