THE Pre-Alps are in level 2, while the Ticino and the Grisons remain on level 1 alert.
"A depression will generate strong to stormy winds over large areas," explains Lionel Fontannaz, meteorologist at MeteoSwiss.
"We are expecting gusts of 100 to 110 km/h, or even up to 120 km/h around 1500 meters altitude. »
According to him, cold air from the Jura will further strengthen these gusts in the plain areas.
🌧️ Snow at altitude and heavy precipitation expected
Besides the wind, Storm Benjamin will be accompanied by heavy rainfall.
There rain-snow limit will descend from 2300 meters to 1300 meters, reducing the risk of flooding but announcing a first real winter episode on the Swiss mountains.
The most exposed regions are located in the north of the country : the Jura, the Franches-Montagnes, neighboring Alsace and the Alemannic plateau, where conditions are favorable to the formation of super storm cells.
"Tornadoes most often affect the Jura and the North Plateau, but all regions can be affected," Fontannaz adds.
🕘 Peak expected Thursday between 9am and 3pm
THE peak of storm Benjamin is expected Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the plains, according to Joshua Gehring, meteorologist at MeteoSwiss.
