Netflix Increases Prices in Switzerland: What You Need to Know

Netflix has confirmed an immediate price increase in Switzerland, effective Thursday. The basic subscription price is increasing from 12.90 to 14.90 francs per month, a 2-franc increase. This revision applies immediately to new subscribers, while existing customers will see the change gradually appear on their future bills.

🎬 Why this increase?

The streaming giant justifies this decision by its desire to "strengthen the value offered to its members." Specifically, Netflix is investing increasingly in local original productions, European content, and technologies to improve image and sound quality.

💰 A general trend in streaming

Netflix isn't alone. Disney+ and Apple TV+ have also raised their prices in recent months, citing rising production costs and growing competition in the sector. The platforms are increasing their investments in local content to retain subscribers and comply with new regulations.

🇨🇭 The “Netflix Lex” effect

Since 2024, Switzerland has implemented the "Lex Netflix," a law requiring streaming services operating in the country to invest at least 4 billion of their revenue in Swiss cinema. This regulation encourages platforms to produce or support more Swiss content.

📈 Strongly growing results

Despite these increases, Netflix remains in full expansion mode. Its latest quarterly report shows a 16% increase in revenue year-on-year, reaching $11.1 billion. The service now has several hundred thousand subscribers in Switzerland, attracted by its ever-expanding catalog.
