Nicolas Sarkozy's reaction to his conviction

5 years in prison for Nicolas Sarkozy

Imitation of Laurent Gerra (so to clarify it's a fake) on Nicolas Sarkozy's reaction following his heavy sentence.

Joking aside, this conviction, if it becomes effective, would be a first in France and even in Europe!

On September 25, 2025, the former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was sentenced to five years in prison For criminal association in connection with the Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign.

The court also issued a fine of 100,000 euros and one 5-year ineligibility, accompanied by a suspension of his civil rights.

Sarkozy was acquitted of some charges, such as passive bribery and embezzlement, due to insufficient evidence. But the court recognized the seriousness of the conspiracy set up to obtain illegal funds from the Gaddafi regime.

This conviction is historic: it is the first prison sentence imposed on a former president of the Fifth Republic. Nicolas Sarkozy has announced his intention to appeal, denouncing a judgment he considers unjust.

A former president serving a prison sentence is not insignificant!
