Léa Sprunger and John Nicolet, commentators on RTS athletics
Lea Sprunger
Former track and field champion Léa Sprunger was born in Nyon in 1990. Initially a heptathlon specialist, she went on to establish herself in sprinting and especially the 400m hurdles. She made history in Swiss athletics by becoming the European 400m hurdles champion in 2018 and setting several national records. A charismatic and respected figure, she has since become a consultant at RTS. In this role, she brings her technical expertise, her high-level athlete's perspective, and a human touch, often focused on the behind-the-scenes, emotions, and psychological demands of performance sport.
John Nicolet
Originally from Fribourg, John Nicolet is a sports journalist at RTS. Passionate about skiing and sports in general since childhood, he made a name for himself as an alpine ski commentator before expanding his field to athletics. His dynamic voice and enthusiasm are familiar to viewers. Rigorous in his preparation, he enjoys analyzing technique, explaining tactical choices, and placing performances in their historical context. He also knows how to convey the emotion of an event with an energetic and popular style.
As a duo, Léa Sprunger and John Nicolet offer a balance between technical precision and lively narration: she with her experience as a champion, he with his profession as a journalist and storyteller.
Statement by Leah Sprunger
«On avait conscience qu’elle pouvait faire quelque chose de grand. Mais on parlait de décrocher une médaille, pas forcément de titre mondial, reconnaît-elle. Ce que Ditaji a fait, c’est fou! Avec John, on a eu de la peine à redescendre après ce moment. Il faut en profiter parce qu’il y en aura pas beaucoup d’autres.»
