After the training day on September 3rd, it's time for the Pumptrack competition, starting on September 4th with the women's and men's qualifications.

In September 2025, Monthey becomes the world capital of Pump TrackAs part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais, the town is hosting a global competition for the first time on its brand new 278-meter track. A spectacular layout, designed to combine speed, technicality, and fluidity, where every pedal stroke and every transfer of support can make the difference.
Pump Track, a young but booming discipline, is as appealing for its accessibility as for the spectacle it offers. In Monthey, the best international specialists will compete in elimination duels, offering the public a breathtaking spectacle. Combining a festive atmosphere, adrenaline, and high-level sport, these championships promise to mark a key milestone for mountain biking in Switzerland and around the world.

What is Pump Track?
THE Pump Track is an explosive discipline of mountain bike – a rhythmic loop of bumps, banked turns and undulations where the riders do not pedal but use body movement (pumping) to gain speed. Technique, agility and strategy are essential, because the confrontations are fast and every fraction of a second counts.
Focus on the Monthey track
- Length : 278 m
- Surface : 1,642 m²
- Average lap time : less than 22 seconds
- Unique feature : multiple circuit configurations possible on the same track — a world first.
The track is located in the Verney sports area, next to the football stadium, athletics and ice rink, with free access all year round.

- Christa von Niederhäusern, ambassador and multiple world champion

Competition in Monthey
Monthey will host the Pump Track discipline of the September 3-7, 2025, as part of the historic edition of the Mountain Bike World Championships bringing together eight disciplines in the same canton, the program:

A key stage for Monthey and Valais
Monthey will transform into Pump Track Capital of the World, attracting the best riders to an exceptional circuit in the heart of Valais. The new track, recently inaugurated, was even used for test events in 2024. Temporary infrastructure will accommodate between 2,500 and 3,000 spectators, in a setting that will now be permanent for the local community.

Format of UCI Pump Track qualifications and finals
Qualifications
- Each rider performs 2 timed rounds individually.
- Alone the best time is retained to establish the classification.
- THE 32 Best Men and the 16 Best Women (depending on participation) advance to the finals.
Finals (elimination duels)
- Format in Direct KO (brackets), like in tennis.
- Each duel is played in 2 sleeves (round trip, each runner changes track).
- The rider with the best cumulative time qualifies for the next round.
- In case of perfect equality, a 3rd round can be disputed.
Final stages
- 1/8th final (men only)
- Quarter-final
- Semi-final
- Small final (for 3rd place)
- Grand Finale (world title)

Concretely, a rider who goes to the end (final) can therefore race up to 7 rounds in total (2 in qualifying + 5 in elimination stages).

How to get to Monthey?
By train
- Monthey is very well served by the CFF and the Chablais Regional Transport (TRAVYS).
- From Geneva : approx. 1h30 by direct train to Aigle, then quick connection to Monthey.
- From Lausanne : approx. 50 minutes.
- From Zion : approx. 40 minutes.
Monthey train station is approximately 15 minutes walk from the Verney sports area, where the Pump Track is located.
By car
- From Lausanne: exit St-Triphon/Monthey via the A9.
- From Sion/Brig: exit Bex/Monthey.
- Parking is available on the outskirts of the city, with free shuttles to the competition site (precise information will be provided by the organization a few weeks before the event).
By bus
- Local shuttles will connect the competition venues, the train station and Monthey town centre.
