Max, the wooden star of the 2025 Federal Wrestling Festival

An impressive monument that has become a symbol

In Mollis, in the canton of Glarus, the Federal Wrestling Festival 2025 is not just about spectacular fights between the best Swiss wrestlers. The real unexpected star is Max. This giant wooden bull is already a real eye-catcher: 20 meters high, 30 meters long and weighing 182 tons.

Max: The Beast That Overlooks the Wrestling Festival

The statue required 1,200 cubic meters of Swiss wood and the involvement of more than 500 apprentices from 220 craft businesses. Beyond its impressive visual appearance, Max is also a symbol of expertise and the promotion of the woodworking profession.

An exceptional arena for a unique event

The festival takes place in a temporary arena capable of holding 56,500 spectators. Built on an area equivalent to a hundred football fields, it is expected to welcome around 350,000 visitors in just three days. In this extraordinary setting, Max is already the main attraction, even before the first whistle.

A political battle over Max

Initially, the idea was to dismantle the statue after the festival and move it elsewhere in Switzerland. But this prospect has raised eyebrows in the canton of Glarus. Several local officials are now calling for Max to remain in place, arguing that he could become a true tourist icon for the canton and a lasting symbol of the 2025 edition.

Why is Max so fascinating?

Its extreme dimensions: 20 meters high for a bull carved in wood. A collective work: more than 500 apprentices and artisans mobilized. A regional pride: Glarus sees it as a cultural and tourist ambassador. A viral attraction: even before the fights begin, it is already the star of the event.

Max, the wooden bull, is much more than just a decoration: he has become the unusual and colossal symbol of this 2025 Federal Wrestling Festival, and his future is already the subject of debate.
