Short story video: Hammer of Lucerne
THE Lucerne hammer is a typical medieval weapon from Switzerland, used from the 14th to the 16th century by infantrymen. Resembling a halberd, it consists of a long wooden handle ending in an iron head with a point, a beak, and a hammering part. This combination made it a formidable weapon, capable of piercing armor or delivering powerful blows. Associated with the militias of the city of Lucerne, it symbolizes the warrior know-how of the Confederates and their role in the battles of the Middle Ages. Today, the Lucerne hammer is often exhibited in Swiss history museums and attracts the interest of enthusiasts of antique weapons and historical reenactments.
