Focus on Shaqiri: the diamond of Swiss football

Fast, technical and skillful, Xherdan Shaqiri is one of the best players the Swiss team has, and you can follow him in a few months on coupeduMonde2018.fr Here's a quick rundown of this talented Swiss winger who made a big impression during his time at Bayern Munich.

Shaqiri 2018 World Cup with Switzerland

An already colossal experience

Born on October 10, 1991 in Zhegër (now Kosovo), Xherdan Shaqiri has several victories to his credit, notably in clubs as:

  • FC Basel player

Initially a member of FC Basel, Shaqiri was a two-time Swiss Cup winner in 2010 and 2012. In addition to these victories, he won the Swiss championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

  • Bayern Munich player

A member of the German club from 2013 to 2015, Xherdan Shaqiri was a three-time German champion with his Bayern teammates. It was his time with Bayern that brought him to the attention of the general public.

The Swiss international also won the German Super Cup in 2012, then the Champions League and the European Super Cup in 2013, as well as the German Cup the same year.

After a brief spell at Inter Milan from 2014 to 2015, he currently plays for Stoke, since 2016.

A player who gives his all, even in training

That's an understatement! Shaqiri gives his all, both in matches and in training. That's why his Stoke City manager refuses to part ways with him.

To prove he's still as active and agile as ever, Shaqiri posted a video of a training session at Stoke a while back. The player can be seen in top form, scissor-kicking three times in a row following a cross from one of his teammates, each resulting in a goal. Our Swiss winger is on fire!

A slew of individual distinctions

It's clear that Shaqiri will never be the equal of Messi or CR7, especially when it comes to the number of Ballon d'Or awards. That said, the winger still has a significant number of individual awards to his credit. In 2007, he was named the Nike Cup's best player. Subsequently, he won the titles of best Swiss hopeful and best young Swiss player in 2010. In 2011, he was included in the European Under-21 Championship team of the year. It's therefore logical that he has subsequently won the title of best Swiss player several times. Let's bet that he will put his incredible talent to work for the team so that the Nati has a good run at the next World Cup.
