Sony announces its PS Vita TV
I was talking to you here of the new, thinner and lighter PS Vita unveiled by Sony during a conference. During this same conference, Sony took the opportunity to announce a brand new console, heavily inspired by the Ouya (the small console running on Android that was funded via Kickstarter).
The PS Vita TV (that's its name) is a small box that will allow you to play a large catalog of games on your TV and with a DualShock controller. Although it is not truly portable, the PS Vita TV can easily be transported to a friend's house, for example, thanks to its very small dimensions (65 x 105 mm).
The console has an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and a PS Vita game player.
While the console might not be immediately obvious (apart from its €80 price tag), it does have a few features that Sony console fans might enjoy.
The first is of course the console function. It will be able to play all PS Vita games, some PSP games and even Playstation games. Another advantage of this PS Vita TV is that it will allow you to play the PS4 on a TV that is not connected to it (the PS4 is in another room and via the Vita TV connected to a television, you can stream the PS4).
As mentioned above, this console might seem useless, but in the end, we realize that it's a more complete Ouya. And given that the latter had a resounding success, I don't see why the PS Vita wouldn't have one.
Watch this space, as this PS Vita TV will be released in Japan on November 14th for less than 10,000 yen (around 80 euros).
