A Samsung app for using your phone while driving
Recently, the Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung unveiled a curious app that supposedly encourages people to use their phones while driving. Of course, this is a bit of a stretch, since Samsung isn't actually pushing people to break the law in this way.
In fact, Samsung released the Samsung Drive app which allows the user to have a simplified interface on their phone when driving (or doing anything else that requires attention).
Samsung is well aware that even though using a phone while driving is prohibited, many people do it, thus taking an additional risk. With this in mind, Samsung wanted to simplify this task in order to minimize the user's attention when using their Samsung smartphone.
But even though the main goal of this app is to reduce people's risk, it can backfire. Indeed, with this app, people who didn't previously use their smartphones while driving might think that they're no longer taking any risks or that it's perfectly legal. Which is obviously false. In short, this app can encourage people to use their phones while driving.
For now the application has been accepted but I would not be surprised if it is soon banned in some less lax countries.
In any case, if you are interested, please note that Samsung Drive is currently only available for the Galaxy SIII, but Samsung will deploy its app on all Samsung smartphones running Android.
