People: Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton on royal tour of Canada

On May 20, Prince William and his wife Katherine Middleton departed Brize Norton in the United Kingdom for Fredericton, Canada. The newlyweds plan to tour the western part of that country from May 20 to 23.

While this is the sixteenth visit for the Prince of Wales, it is the second visit that the Duchess of Cornwall, his wife, is making to Canadian soil.

The program

On May 21, the couple will visit Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, New Brunswick, and the city of Saint John. They will then head to Toronto, Ontario, for the next two days before concluding their visit on May 23 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Invitation from the Prime Minister

This formal visit follows an invitation extended by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on the occasion of their wedding. As this year marks the Diamond Jubilee of Canada, the country with the red maple leaf will join Canadians in celebrating their history and future, as well as the dedication of thousands of citizens who have contributed to the development of this country.
For the occasion, a concert will be given at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Division drill hall in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Not in the East

It appears that the royal tour of a few days was not planned to extend its journey to eastern Canada.
