An iOS app for Twitpic
The popular photo host for Twitter has just launched its official app on iOS!
Twitpic is a service that allows you to upload photos, primarily for the social network Twitter. Many Twitter clients integrate Twitpic directly, meaning that every time you upload a photo to Twitter using your client, it's saved to Twitpic.
However, until now, there was no Twitpic app for iOS. In a way, it was impossible to easily manage your account via your iDevice. But as of today, things have changed, as the official app has just arrived on the App Store (and it's free, of course).
With this, you can upload your photos directly from your iPhone (or iPad and iPod touch of course) but also modify them by applying a filter (among the 10 offered to you).
Without a doubt, this filter option is reminiscent of something familiar and therefore already seen: Instagram! It's clear that this social network is becoming a serious competitor to Twitpic since many users now only upload photos with this service.
At first glance, one might think that Twitpic will not be able to compete with Instagram's massive user base (40 million), but that is not the case since Twitpic already has 35 million!
For me, one of Twitpic's biggest advantages is the fact that Instagram was recently acquired by Facebook. While this has certainly brought in many more users, many aren't entirely happy about this alliance due to privacy concerns! The second advantage is definitely the ability to upload videos.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you if this app is worth it simply because I don't have a smartphone at the moment. But if you've tried it, feel free to share your impressions!
