Good numbers for Samsung
After Apple, Now it's Samsung's turn to boast about its figures for the last quarter.
Even if sales and profits are lower than Apple's, growth is on a par with its worst rival.
Samsung has announced sales of 30 billion euros, an increase of 22 % compared to the same period a year ago. Profits came to €3.37 billion, an increase of 81 %. This is a very good performance (Apple made just 10 % more, with an increase of 91 %). The South Korean manufacturer's margin has therefore increased, but it is still a long way from Apple's, with «only» 11 % of net margin (Apple's figure is a staggering 47.4 %).
But Samsung owes these fine figures largely to its telecoms division, which still accounts for three quarters of the company's turnover. Samsung has also revealed the number of phones it sold during the quarter, totalling 90 million, including 49 % smartphones (44 million). This puts it ahead of Finnish firm Nokia, which has held onto its position for 14 years.
By the way, tomorrow is the day Samsung unveils its latest Galaxy smartphone: the Samsung Galaxy S3. The conference will take place in London. Will we find out the smartphone we expected Or not at all? Find out tomorrow.
