More LG smartphones running Windows Phone
Microsoft's mobile OS is struggling to win people over. Even though it was available from a large number of smartphone manufacturers, sales never really took off. The Nokia Lumia may have boosted things a little, but Windows Phone is still a long way behind its rivals.
And here's some news that's only going to make things worse for Redmond. South Korean manufacturer LG has just announced that it is abandoning Windows Phone. It justifies its decision by saying that sales are not taking off and that it wants to concentrate on its best-selling OS: Android!
It's a major blow for Microsoft, which is seeing its mobile OS abandoned by just about every manufacturer apart from Nokia (which is the only one not to offer an Android smartphone, so that's certainly got something to do with it). Remember, a while ago, it was Samsung and HTC who said they were going to drop Windows Phone 7 for a while, but that they would be back, and would concentrate on 8 (for which we still don't have a date).
However, Steve Wozniak (the co-founder of Apple) said in an interview that the Windows Phone operating system was much better than Android, and in some cases even the iPhone! He also said that he'd recently bought a Nokia Lumia 900 (it's an 800, but bigger and only available in the USA) and that he'd always have this smartphone with him (which isn't the case with all these smartphones, since he owns 4 of them: two iPhone 4S, a Nokia Lumia 900 and a Motorola RAZR, so you could say that he has an objective opinion on this). Will this announcement by Wozniak (who is not just anyone in the eyes of consumers) boost sales of Windows Phone smartphones?
